« • TARANAKI ASSOCIATION MEETING. (BY TELEGRAPH— 'PHESS ASSOCIATION.) NEW PLYMOUTH, 7th February. _ The Taranaki ritle meeting was con* tinued to-day. The following are the results: — Stratford match: Rifleman G. Grover 97. Patea match : President Humphries 49. Grand aggregate : Rifleman W. Winslade 366, Rifleman A. Humphries 366, Rifleman J. Johnson 357, Rifleman D. Roots 356, Rifleman G. Grover 556, Corporal Mace 351. Ser-geant-Major Bond won the tyros aggregate with 348.
An effort is to be made lo form a swimming club in Petono. ai;d a meeting towards this end is to be held there next week. VVith the object oC carrying out protective works in the upper portions of the Hutt River, the River Board intends to put before the ratepayers of the district shortly a proposal to borrow £2000. It was origiually intended to make the amount £1000, but in consequence of alterations suggested in the overseer's report it was decided by the board to try to get the greater hum. Arrangements for hecuring halls and calling the necessary meetings have been left in the handy of Mr. M. W. Welch, the representative of the district.
