Some thousands of pounds, chiefly Wellington capital, has been expended by the Wairatt Valley Goldmining Company in developing its property, but up to the present time the return has not been large. The shareholders aro convinced, however, that payable gold will be found, and as soon as a survey riow in progress has been completed, mining operations, which have been suspended for some months, will be resumed under the direction of an expert from the West Coast. The low level tunnel is now in about 1000 feet, and it is intended to rise up from it to the upper drive, which is between 700 and 800 feet long, with the object of proving the existence of the main reef in that part of the mine, and at the same time ventilating the workings.
