LOCAL AND GENERAL ■ *> Order of civil cases in the next civil session of th« Supreme Court will be fixed by his Honour Mr. Justice Chapman ,at a Chambers sitting of tho 00111+ to-morrow morning, at 10 o'clock. An attempt to escape from the cells at the Lambton-quay police station was made yesterday afternoon by Allah Moody, one of two men who had been before the Court on a charge _ of conspiracy. He broke away the iron bars or a ventilator from the woodwork, about four feet above the door, and escaped through the opening. When he reached the end of the passage hfe was seen by a member of the Kitchen staff, and at once recaptured, placed in another cell, and subsequently taken to the Terrace Qaol. Yesterday, Ash Wednesday, ushered in the penitential season of Lent. Appropriate services wore held in all the Anglican and Catholic Churches. At St. Peter's, the services were conducted by Archdeacon Harper, who urged the congregation to spend the day in meditation and prayer. At 'St. Mary of the Angels the principal Macs was celebrated at 9 o'clock, tho Rev. Father Goggan, S.M.. being celebrant.
