CHARGE OF ATTEMPTED SUICIDE
(BY TELKGSAPH— PRBSS ASSOCIATION*) AUCKLAND, sth February. Charles John Henry Mahon, who in the early hours of Saturday morning was found in his house at Otahuhu suffering from lysol poisoning, was discharged from the hospital this morning, and appeared before the Police Court to-day to answer a charge of attempted suicide. Senior-Sergeant M'Kinnon asked for a remand for a week, stating that it was intended to ask for a remand to Otahuhu, for the case to be heard there on Friday week. When Mr. Singer (for accused) asked for bail, the sergeant recalled that the circumstances pointed to accused having got out of bed in the small hours of the morning and seriously assaulted his vyife prior to taking the lysol. The Magistrate remarked that the accused was obviously not of normal balance on the occasion of the alleged offence, and the question was whether it would be Hiscreet to admit him to bail now. Accused would be remanded till Friday, pending a report from the medical officer.
