Mr. Hugo, Friedlander, just returned from a trip to the Old Country, told a reporter that he believed that frozen meat would be admitted to European countries soon, which would reduce the present high Customs duties, and provide a cheap means of sending the meat by train to the centres of population in Europe, where the price of wholesome meat was almost prohibitive. The burden in this' respect was felt severely by all classes except. the wealthy. There was a strong agitation for cheaper meat, and he .had no doubt that soon it would be effective. % fPBKSS ASSOCIATION.] FIRE AT DUNEDIN DUNEDIN, sth February. About 9 o'clock to-night a fire was discovered in the premises of Messrs. Scott and Wilson, Venetian blind-makers, in St. Andrew-street. The fire was speedily subdued, but practically tho whole of the centre portion of the factory was" gutted, and fairly extensive damage done. ' The building was insured for £450 in tho National office, and the stock for £650 in the Victoria office. The extent of the damage was not known to-night. HOTELKEEPER FINED DUNEDIN, This Day. At Naseby yesterday, Alexander Brown, licensee of the Ancient Briton Hotel, was fined £5, with costs, on a charge of selling liquor after hours. *A charge of ■ exposing for sale was dismissed.
