' The House of Commons, on the report stage of the Welsh Disestablishment Bill, adopted Mr. M'Kenna's new clause con* taining a scheme for the commutation of livings on the basis of 3^ per cent. Mr. W. G. C. Gladstone (Liberal) and othors criticised the clause on the ground that there was a great risk c-f the Church being landed ih a big loss. -They suggested a commutation calculated on a a per cent, basis. GOVERNMENT DEFEATED. "DROP THE BILL." (Received February 5, 10 a.m.) LONDON, 4th February. At the report stage the amendment to leave all the glebe lands to the Church was defeated by 248 votes to 220. The result of tfhe vote was greeted with Opposition cheers and cnes of '-'Drop the Bill."
