Ab a meeting of citizens,' Florrie Waters, daughter of the keeper of the Rottnest Island lighthouse, who in December rescued her father from drowning after a heroic struggle, was presented with a purse of sovereigns and also £10, subscribed by Sydney citizens. tin December last the keeper of the Rotbnest lighbhouso and his daughter, aged 18, were out fishing, when a tremendous breaker swamped bhe bdab. Both were thrown out. Wabers was unable bo swim, bub his daughber, who is a strong swimmer, managed to keep her father afloat. Breakers swamped them, and each time they lost hold of the boat. The girl would then swim after her father, and bring him back to safety. Several times the boat turned over. Waters's plucky girl dived under and dragged him out. After being an hour in the water,- Watera implored his daughter to leave him and save herself. Finding her clothes too heavy, the girl secured her father by a leg and with her hands divested hei'self of her heavy clothing. Waters, by this bime, was unconscious, bub bhe girl, wibh greab physical endurance, continued bo hold his head above water. Meantime, the accident had been observed by Mrs. Waters, who ran for Mr. Arthur, a visitor to the island, who also saw the occurrence. He se'eured two clothes lines, wibh which he struggled along the reef towards the distressed couple, who had been carried in by the breakers. After considerable difficulty he managed to haul them ashore. Miss Waters, immediately her father had been hauled td safety, collapsed.]
