A PrefiS Association telegram from Gisborne states : —Sergeant Hutton, who has been promoted to the rank of SeniorSergeant/ was congratulated by the local Bench and Bar to-day. A prominent surfer at Lyall Bay had a rather hair-raising experience on Sunday when he was swimming out well beyottd the line of breakers. On turning to come in-shore ho noticed the sharp fin of a shark cutting the water a few yards away from him. Naturally, he did not go closer to investigate, but struck out for the beach. There have been reports as to sharks beiilg seen at Day's and Rona Bays of late, and it is thought that the hot, weather has had something to do with their coming in closer to shore than usual. Tho fragtanco of the blushing rose, Or luscious fruifc tho taßto, AH for our pleasure Ood bestoWß, Whoso wisdom may bo traced. So with tho good and beautiful, Oui* health maintained and right, With Poppafminfc Cure to make more sure, Is cause for. our delight.— Adifo
