(bi telegraph— press association.) CHRISTCHURCH, 2nd February. This afternoon some sensations were provided in. first grade cricket. West Christchurch went down before East Christchurch. Riccarton failed miserably before some fine bowling by Wilson, for Syd,enham w and St. Albans (two men short) failed to play out time against Linwood. giving the eastern club a threepoint win. Results : Sydenham, " 386, Riccarton 104 and 59; Linwood 204 and 203 for four, declared (A. Grant 69, S. Orchard not out 62), St. Albans 202 and 96; East Christchurch, 343 (T. Carlton 61, H. W. Monaghan 70. J. W. Crichton 63) ; West Christchurch, 229 and 44 for six. AUCKLAND, 2nd February. The eighth round of district cricket competition commenced to-day in fine weather. Chief interest centred in the Eden-Ponsonby ganie. the teams being level tor the championship. Eden made 215 (Ilemus 46. Taylor 62. BrookeSmith 22. Heighway 32). Bowling for Ponsonby, Kavanagh took six wickets for 66 runs, Shepherd three for 38. Ponsonby lost no wickets for 18. University. 166 (Airey 42, Caradus 25, Eowe not out 23. Fenwick 22), v. North Shore, 125 for' four wickets (Prime not out 60, Sale 39). Bowling for North Shore, Dacre took two wicket^ for 52, Archer three for 39,- Stewart four for 10. Grafton, 312 (M'Cormick not out 129, Pratt 34, Savoerin 72, Caro 31), v. Parnell, 11 for nu wickets. Bowling for PiU'iiell, Olliff took five' wkkete lor 01, Korr two for 76.
