MR. FRASER'S VISIT TO THE SOUTH

Fraser, Minister for Public Works, spent Saturday morning in receiving iallei'6-.on public business and in transacting departmental business. _ Mr. Fraser, accompanied by Mr. H. Dickson, resident «ngmeer, and the contractor and foreman of works, then went over the new Government Buildings, which are being erected in Wor-, caster-street. In the course of an inter view^ Mr. Fraeer remarked that th* building, when completed, would be an ornament to the city. The contractor* expected to finish, it in three or four monthe. Iteferring to the tunnel contract, in connection with the Lake Coleridge hydro-electrical scheme, Mr. Fraser said that nothing ha<l been decided as to determining the contract, but a decision would be arrived at when he got back to Wellington. The Minister added lhat work was proceeding at (Arthur's Ptis« tunnel under the Public Works Department, pending details being arranged for tho calling for fresh tenders. Mr. Fraeer left in the evening for Wellington, and he expects to stay there again for more than a week, when he wilt 'odme South again to visit Invercaugill and the _ Catlintt district. In March the Minister visits Gieborne, Whaiigarei, and the Bay of Islands, and if time, will permit ho may visit the We3f> Coast of the South Island before ho goes to Gisborne.
