CUSTOMS RETURNS

RECORD FOR JANUARY. The Customs revenue collected at the port of Wellington last month constitutes a local record for the month of January. The return was only £66 11s 5d less than the best month on recordAugust, 1907. The revenue collected last month amounted to £96,82? 2s Ad, as compared with £84,856 14s 3d for the corresponding period last year. Beer duty to the amount of £1207 16s 9d was collected during the month, an increase of £217 4s lid over that received during January, 1912. Customs duties collected on Saturday amounted to £1275 12s 6d, the total for the week being £13,912 13s. The beer duty collected during the same week totalled £199 10s, as against £371 18s 7d for the corresponding week in January, 1912.
