Mr. Austen Chamberlain, speaking at Rcciditch, in Woice&tersliire, said the Unionists pioposud, roughly, a, 10 per cent, duty on mamifactmed goods — less where the goods were a piime necessity or wheie they were in the fiist stages of manufacture, and more where they were luxuries or carried to the last stages of manufacture. The party proposed to give colonial preference on every duty charge. That preference would be useful to any part, of the Empire. If food duties were sought the party would seek a fresh mandate.
