Swimmers intend to do their part -in connection with the Citizens' Easter Carnival. Last night a deputation from the Carnival Sports Committee waited on the executive of the Swimming Centre, and applied for assistance, but the chairman (Air. H. F. Atkins) was quick to explain that the swimmers would need no coaxing; in fact, they had already considered a scheme, and arrangements were well forward. It was proposed to hold a carnival on a huge scale on Lyall Ba,y beach. The entertainment would be absolutely novel to Wellington, and in line with similar entertainments on the beaches around Sydney. Mr. R. Healy had brought the idea over with him, and the Lyall Bay Surf "Club had taken it up enthusiastically, and, with the help of the centre, intended to put it into practice. Marquees would be erected all over the beach, and would contain various sideshows. An enclosure would be roped off, and in this there would be a series of comic events and novel competitions. Being, new, the idea was sure to be popular. The deputation thanked Mr. Atkins for the 'unexpected reply it had received. The carnival will bo held on 15th March-— the Saturday preceeding Good Friday, At its meeting last night a deputation from tha Hntt Valley Trotting Club waited upon the Mutt Park Committee asking it to reconsider the club's request of a year ago for the use of the old racecourse for a day's racing, as the Petoue ground was not large enough to accommodate the increasing crowds that attend the ttotting meetings. The sum of ' £30 whs offered for one day. The committee agreed to reconsider the matter at a meeting next Friday. It's a. pleasure to wear a "boater' 1 that fits. Geo.
