GOVERNMENT INSURANCE v. A.M.P. REMARKABLE SCORING. Teams representing the Government Insurance Department and the A.M.P. Society met on the .College ground yesJ terday for their twenty-seventh annual | match. The game was commenced in threatening weather, on a good but slow wicket. The A.M.P., winning the toss, batted first, and Columb and Macbeth opened the innings to the bowling of Casey and Spenee. The side totalled 122, of which Hickson contributed 51 by bright, breezy cricket. He wan caught on the edge of the boundary from a good stroke. Daviee (21) and Wilkes (13) also rendered yeoman service to their side. The best- bowlers for the Government were Spenee, Casey, and .Houston, while Niven (wicketkeeper). 'Ryan, Wakelin, and Davies did good work in the field. The Government opened their innings at 12.45 p.m., and a .prolific partnership ensued. . It was hot till 212 runs had been notched that s> ■separation came about, Casey 109 (in. eluding four 6's Ahd thirteen 4's) being caught an the outfield. This partnership total is a record in these matches for the first or any wicket. The outgoing batsman had given a most attractive display, with but two chances. With the score at 279, Paul failed to negotiate one from Columb, ahd was bowled. His score of 132 included seventeen 4's, and : was a sound and free display. He gave ohe chance at 40, and scored all round the wicket. The innlhgs dosed for 287, leaving the Government winners by 165 , ruhs on the first innings. ' The teams partook of luncheon, in a Jnarquee, and the principal officers of both offices were present.
