DISTRIBUTION 'OF PURCHASES. By Telegraph.— Vtett Assocktton.—CopyiJght. LONDON, 30th January. The wool sold at the current series of sales has been distributed as follows :— Home buyers, 78,000 bales ; for the Continent, 43,000 bales; iov the United States, 9000 bales; held, 5000 bales. A strong buying movement developed during the last few days owing \o the shortage in South. America and Australia, All merinos dosed 5 per cent, above opening rates ; fine medium crossbreds at par to 5 per cent, above December sales, and coarse at par with the December rales. Lambs were scarce, and went 74 per cent, above last series. The American purchases were entirely of crossbreds. The Ng&kanui clip realised 13d top price, and 12^d average price. HIGH PRICES IN SYDNEY. 1 SYDNEY, 30th January. At the wool sales this week the market showed increased firmness, the highest prices of the season being realised. Greasy reached 14id, and scoured 23id. There will be no sales ne-st week, Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Wellington, have just received the following cabled information under date 29th January :— -"Sales have closed firm and active, with brisk competition, as compared with closing rates of last Beries, scoured merino, medium sorts, good quality and condition, 6 per cent, higher, and inferior unchanged. Greasy merino, medium to good, 5 to ?i pdr cent, higher, inferior unchanged, Fine crossbred wools are 5 to 7£ per cent, higher, medium crossbreds, suitable for America, 5 to, 7| per cent, higher, and ordinary medium crossbreds 5 per cent, higher ; coarse crossbreds unchanged ; sliped crossbreds unchanged, The total net quantity available for sale amounted to 135.000 bales. There were sold 9000 bales for America, sold for Home consumption 78,000, sold to the Continent 43,000 bales, and carried forward 5000 bales,"
