GREATER WELLINGTON

MUNICIPAL ELECTORS' ASSOCIATION For some time pact meetings have been held with a view to the formatiou of a body of the united representatives of the various parts of Greater Wellington. In tho pa&t theie have been a number of bodies each working mainly in tho interests of their own particular districts. It has been fell- that a union of theeo bodies could do good work in matters affecting the common interests ot tho whole of Greater Wellington. For instance, such questions ac tow n planning, tramway matters, and tho securing of the return of candidates for seats on all local bodies who will in tho opinion of the association give the best eervico to the city, irrespective of any eectional or class interests. An association on these lines ha* been successfully formed, and the first general meeting is to be hekl in the Chamber of •Commerce on the 10th February. In addition to the membership of the various associations, provision has been made whereby any elector of Wellington Cily can become an active member of the association on payment of a nominal subscription of 2s 6d per annum. Thus any person having the interests of the city and its various suburbs at heart will have an opportunity of joining the association, and bringing forward for the consideration of the representative body any matter calculated to_ be for the good of the city, and incidentally of the .people residing in it. The matter has been taken up very t-hthusiasti-cally, and the indications are that there will be a large attendance at the meeting on 10th February, and that the association will start off with a large roll of membership. As indicating the broad grounds to be covered, it may be mentioned that notice has been given of intention to bring up for' the early coiisi deration of the association the following matters :— -Municipal and Harbour board elections, town planning, universal tramway fare, incr-easing the minimum frontage for Jbuilding sites in tho suburbs, greater use of electricity for power purposes, better provision for protection from fire in residential areas, the beautifying of the city, and, incidentally lees restriction on the use of water for gardens.
