Izard, on behalf of the Llmwood estate, wrote asking that the dram on the property be cleared cut, and cost charged to the estate. This was agreed to. A request was received from Mr. P Johnston to have a surface drain from his property in Alicetown. It was decided that this be done, prodding that Mr. Johnston pays the cost. The trustees of the Avery estate wrote, asking the council to supply houses on property with water. It was pointed out that the estate is just outside the borough, and it was 'decided to let tho matter stand over for the present _ Mr Lindsay asked that, as he was installing drainage in a house at Alicetown, that tho water supply be connected thereto. It was decided to inform the writer that the connection could not be made out of revenue, and that it would be postponed until the council devised a scheme' for further water supply. ENGINEER'S REPORT. The engineer (Mr. Roche) in his report, stated that sewer laying in Han-tana-square was still proceeding, 15 chains having been completed The total cost to date was £256 18s lOd. The sewer had been laid through Hume-street, and it had been connected with the existing drain in the main road at Everest's Creek. The new drain connecting King s-road and Waterloo-road was com?n \ , The cost of this work w as £86 12s lOd, while the estimate was £97 10s. With reference to surface drainage work in Victoria-street and Park-avenue, it was decided to leave these works for the incoming council to deal with. One new connection had been mado I with the gas main, and four with the water service. There were now 740 water service connections in the borough ; 231 permits under the drainage and sanitary by-laws had been issued to date, 224 of which were in use. I DRAINAGE CONTRACTS. In accordance with notice of motion, Councillor Baldwin moved— "That no tender for drainage be accepted for section No. 2 until members of the council have fuller information as to the reason why i& is necessary to depart from the plans prepared by Mr. LaingMeajson for the same section." Accordingly Mr. Roche submitted a lengthy report on the matter, in which he gave the full reasons for his action. The Mayor said that the report seemed to him to be satisfactory, and in this view the majority of the councillors apparently concurred. The motion was, therefore, not put, Councillor Baldwin stating that he would be quite satisfied if the report wa-s recorded in the minutes. The council then considered tenders for the work in committee.
