COTTAGE HOSPITAL FOR HUTT VALLEY.
The movement in favour of a Cottage Hospital being built to supply the needs oi the Hutt Valley show some signs of revival. At the lafit meeting of tho Petone Borough Council, a deputation, was received from workers on the Wel-lington-Hutt railway line, asking the council to take over and hold in trust the sum of £21. The sum represented the balance of moneys held in respect to a sick benefit society, which fund • — the railway construction being completed — it was now determined to close. The deputation desired that the money should go to form the nucleus of a cottage hospital fund. The Mayor expressed pleaeuro at the gift, arid briefly referred to the movement in. favour of the establishment of a hospital in the Hutt Valley. Interest in it had flagged for the time- being. He believed, however, that the time was not far distant when the proposal would be resuscitated. Only tho other day he had been approached in reference to a proposal to initiate a movement among the ladies of the Valley with the objects of raising funds for the purpose. Membens of the deputation resigned all claim to the money upon its being handed over to the council. In the opinion of Councillor Short a hospital was sure to come; "it mighb be- \ little far off though." In expressing his appreciation of the praiseworthy action ot the society, he said he hoped that other people would follow in its footsteps. The council decided to accept the money with thanks, and credit the fund each year with the accumulated interest.
