MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court to-day. 'For insobriety, John M'Kay was fined ss, with the option of 24 hours' imprisonment. A prohibition order was issued against him. Karl Johansen, a Norwegian, sailor, was sentenced , to one -month's imprisonment in Dunedin Gaol, and ordered to pay costs (7s) for desert- ' ing from the barque Ariel. He is to be placed on board the vessel if she leaves ' .the Dominion before the expiry of the ! term. " ! Ja6.,Ryan, found by night in an outhouse in Guildford-terrace, was convicted, and ordered to come up for sentence | when called upon. Howard Ingram was mulcted in a penalty of £3, with the alternative of 21 i. days' detention, for using obscene language. He was convicted, and discharged for drunkenness. Win. ."Newbury and Sydney Wm. Arthur pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing one blanket and two pairs of trousers, the property of M. Britis. Newhury also admitted stealing one dress basket and -clothing, valued at £3, the property of Ellen Thompson. On the application of Sub-Inspector Sheehan, hi 6 Worship deferred sentence until to-morrow. John Hyde," Mary Latham, and Ada ' Curry appeared blfore Mr. F. Cohen at- -the Mount Cook Police Court this morning on charges, of drunkenness, and were each fined 10s. the alternative being fixed at 48 hours' imprisonment. Oliver Dumford and two .first offenders also ap•peared on similar charges and were convicted and discharged.
