PERSONAL MATTERS.

Mr. W. T. Home, of the Christchurch Dairy Company, is at present on a visit to Wellington. The Hon. J. Carroll returned from the North on Saiurday, and the Hons. T. Mackenzie and D. Buddo from the South yesterday. . At the last meeting of the Commercial Club, Wanganui, Mr. A. Hatrick was unanimously re-elected president for the eighth year in succession. A tangi is being held at Onepuhi, near Halcombe, over the remains of Karatea, an old and distinguished Maori, who died at the advanced age of 95 years. Mt. W. C. Kensington, Under-Secre-tary of Lands,^ has been enquiring into river protection matters in Hawkes Bay. He is 'due back in Wellington this evening. Mr. W., D. S. Mac Donald, M.P., who is at present undergoing a course of balneological treatment in Botorua, is reported to be deriving much benefit therefrom. Justices Cooper and Sim reached Wellington on Saiurday night. The former, who leaves on Thursday for England, has concluded his judicial duties until he returns. Mr. Justice Sim will sit as a Judge on the Court of Appeal. Mr. E. Parry, who has been appointed Chief Electrical Engineer in connection with the New Zealand hydro-elec-trical scheme, will leave England for the Dominion by the Corinthic on 21st May. Mr. C. L. Brrks, Assistant-Engi-neer, has arrived in Wellington and commenced ihis duties. Mt. E. Milligan, chairman of the Oamaa-u Harbour Board, was on Saturday presented with a purse of 100 sovereigns, a gold watch, and a beantifullyframed illuminated address for the good work he had done in connection with the consolidation of the board's loans. The Hon. T. Y. Duncan occupied the chair, and the hall was crowded. The speeches were very complimentary to the recipient for the trouble to had takenfrin bringing to a successful issue a satisfactory scheme.
