PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOOTBALL.
ALLEGED UNFAIR DISORIMI-. NATION. Mr. ■George H*>we -writes to The Post icojitending that the Wellington. Public Schools Sagby TFnjen acted -wrongly in. declining to grant permission to th© Marisb BitiheES* School to ente? teams far the public schools Eugby competitions. According to Mr. Howe, the* reasons gjyett for the exclusion of theMar&sfc Blotters' boys were.: — (1) That the Weffiogton Public Schools Union was a public schools union, and could not a/hnffc private schools without altering its consiatation. ; (2) That the Marisl/ Brothers' boys -were bigg«r than the State school boys-; and (3) That* there .were vet .soffieknfc grounds available. The oonsegnence (cantiones Mr. Howe) was that the Marisfc Broih«r&' boys vsasi cfflnpedJed to play Association, in ik& Aaotaation ~Bos£ Leagnes. On TrWht. a, deputation from tho Weffiugton Bagby Union waited on the Eablie Schools Union and asked that the Maxist Brothers' boys' request should be granted, tt vtas pointed out by the deputation that, it seemed to be aa easy matter for the Public Schools Union 4o alter its cogitation if it so desired.;, that there -was to show thai the Msrisfc Baaofifaers' boys were' biggea? -&m the State school boys, and thai* as -the -ci% Teeseaiaon grounds had been fcraaed 1 since the last application, and ths Sagby Union had plenty of grounds, ■She ofo jectlon on tins score vras now T-QHowed. It ytaa farther poiaited out flrafc* in Auckland and Canterbury the Maxist Brotbeas' schools took part in th<e sebools competitions. "I understand," adds Mr. Howe, "that the sam© thing applies in Wangaaui, Napier, .West Coast, Bunsdin, and almost every other place in New Zealand- Wellington — &c capital city of the Dominion — alone has title unenvdairle Tepulation amongst footballers of presenting tfasse boys from 'plsjring Eugby football."
