REFUSE IN THE CITY.
IO THE EDITOR. Sir,---Nono of tho candidates have touched, so far as I can see, upon what is the most scandalous disrega -d (on tho part of the present council) o£ tho want of proper cleaning of tho pavement, guttore, and sidewalks. Dunedin and Auckland have men continually playing water in tho streets and flushing the 'gutter* with hydrants. Look at this city and compare it with oiihei of tho above places. Anyone walking into town via J ervois-iiuay or Courtenay-place are choked in eyes and mouth with horse droppings and refuse banked up in tho gutters and side wnl't*. I, along? with scores of my friends, will vote for tho man or men who will announce in your columns on Tues"day that they aro in favour of applying tho hyd 'anfc system. The way refuse of all deacript ons is allowed to gather and bo wafted liy every wind into people's clothes, eyos, and throat is disgraceful. Are tl 10 Trades Hall nominees in favour of this? If bo, let them say so to-night at the (Jentury Hall.— l am, etc., DISGUSTED ELECTOR.
