TRAMWAY MANAGEMENT.

XO THE EDITOIi. Sir,— Your correspondent "A Train Man, seems to have at least hit on tho right spot when he says, " Given a free hand, the present traffic management is as capable of running the service economically as any other in tho Dominion." I should rather be prepared to say Australasia, for in Sydney and Brisbane the trams are wretchedly overcrowded. What_ strikes me, living out at Island Bay, is tha absolute waste of time, electrical energy, etc. , in running cars every ten minutes to this place, -for how many times during the day between 9 and 12 a.m. and 2 and 5 p.m. two and sometimes three passengers are all that are carried to the Newtown junction; Wal-lace-street to Cuba-street is about the sarao; and Aio-street to Willie-sxreet is on a pai' with the two others. Mr. Richardson and Mr. Cable are two capable men, and it is an insult to thenprofession and administration to call in any outsider. We dp not want cars running empty to suit the fad of all and sundry. One car every half-hour would be ample between the honrs stated on the lines above. Anyhow, if, our council thinks Mr. Stuart Richardeon or Mr. Cable or itself wants information, why not depute our officers to visit all Australasian cities and present a report. The Government has done it on matters less important, and the City Council would be well advised to take the came steps. — I am, etc., OBSERVER.
