ADVENT OF THE DAFFODILS. All lines of vegetables and fruit were in fair demand at the Allen-street markets this morning. iMelbourne peare sold at 11s to 12s per case, Hobarts in half-cases realised 5s to 5s 6d j South Australian grapes went at 10s 6d to 11s 6d, New South Wales-grown 9s to 9s 6d ; South Australian lemons were in good demand at 13s to 16s 6d per bushel case; Sydney passions realised 6s 6d to 8s 9d per half-case. No Messina lemons came forward this week. Persimmons sold from 4s 6d to 5s 6d per quartercase. The first consignments of mandarins from Australia are expected shortly. Local pears sold from 7s to 9s for deesert sorts, cookers 4s to 5s per packer case ; quinces, from 3s 6d to 4s 6d per case; local hot-house grapes realised lOd to Is Id, and Nelson lOd to Is; Cape gooseberries were plentiful at 2d to 3d pei' lb (the season is almost over ; outdoor-grown tomatoes sold from 3s to 4s 6d per half-case ; cucumbers realised 10s to 12s per orange case; choice dessert apples were in fair request from 6s to Bs, cookers 3s 9d to 4s 6d. Iv the vegetable line pie melons are selling at 3e 6d per cwt; pumpkins, 3s 6d to 4s per sack ; cabbages. 2s to 4s; marrows. Is 6d to 2s 6d per sack; red cabbages, le 6d per sack ; cauliflowers (choice), 5s to 8s per sack; beetroot. 2s 6d per sack ; French beans sold at 3s to 4s per half sack ; parsnips, 3s 6d to 4s per sack ; carrots, 2s 6d to 3s per sack; white turnips, 2s to 3s per sack; swedes were plentiful at 2s per cwt; lettuce sold at 2s 6d to 4s pel* banana case; celery (choice white) bi ought from Is 6d to 2s 3d per dozen heads'; rhubarb realised 2s to 4s per. dozen bundles ; onions, 4s per cwt ; potatoes (sound). 5s 3d to 5s 9d per cwt ; artichokes ,3s per half sack ; walnuts (prime), s£d to 6^d per lb : mushrooms were in good demand at 7s to 0d per banana case ; spinach sold at Is 6d to 2s per case ; green peas were quoted at 8s per half sack. Violets, daffodils, and jonquils are now coming to hand in small lots, and payable rates are being secured.
