There is considerable dissatisfaction in University circles over the decision of the University Senate to abolish the annual commemoration celebrations. Speeches made at the University Union compared the Senate's decision to a Russian ukase, and denounced the Senators as hide-bound conservatives, with ideas not in keeping with progress, civilisation, and common-sense.
