A cyclonic storm has merged with a westerly low pressure off the West Coast of the South Island, and has caused stormy weather and considerable rani in most parts of the country. Heavy ram fell on the east coast districts of the South Island last night Strong noitherly and easterly winds have prevailed, and 'have increased on the east coast southward of Cape Campbell, where gales were experienced during the night and are reported at many coastal stations this morning. Barometer. — Fall everywhere, but probably rising fast in the southernmost districts after about 24 hours. Sea.— Heavy northward of East Cape and southward of Castlepoint; considerable and increasing elsewhere after about 18 hours. Tides.— High northward of East Cape; good southwards; poor on all the western coast, but increasing after 18 hours. Warning signals for northerly gales are- 'exhibited at Cape Maria Van Diemen, Tiritiri, East Cape, Capes Campbell, Farewell Spit, and Foulwind, and at Stephen Island, Nugget Point, and Centre Island.
