The by-election for the Haddingtonshire seat in the 'House of Commons, rendered vacant by the elevation to the Peerage of Mr. Haldane, the sitting member, has resulted in the return of Mr. J. D. Hope, Liberal, the figures being : — Mr. J. D. Hope (Liberal) 3652 Mr.' B. H. Blyth (Unionist) ... 3184 [At the general election in December last, Mr. Haldane (then Secretary of State for War) was opposed by Mr. Blyth. The polling resulted : —Haldane 3845, Blyth 3158. Mr. Hope, who had represented West Fifeshire for nearly ten years, was defeated in December by Mr. W. Adampon (Labour). He was born in 1860, and educated at Fettes College, Edinburgh.]
