TO IMPROVE THE ZOO.
Yesterday afternoon Mr. A. Le Soeuf, director of the Sydney Zoo, who ias been engaged to report on the Wellington Zoological Gardens at Newtown, visited the gardens in- company with Messrs. J. P. Luke, G. Frost, and W. H. Morrah (members of the City Reserves Committee). Mr. Le Soeuf made a general tour of the Zoo, and pointed out -the ease with which the sheltered gullies and sunny slopes might be utilised for extension. The visitor considers that there are immense possibilities in the local animal gardens. Wellington has made, he added, a surprisingly good start, considering its size. Mr. Le Soeuf was very much taken -with the site. He will remain in New Zealand, it is said, for about a fortnight, and during that time he hopes to travel North and South and make himself more conversant with the flora and fauna of the Dominion, Mr. Le Soeuf is much impressed with the idea of an interchange of animals between the, two countries, and believes he sees many opportunities of working such suitable exchanges.
