TRADES COUNCIL. * LARGE NmmER OF REMITS PASSED. [BY TELEGHAPH — PBESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, Thk Day. The Trades Council this morning passed a large .number of remits, virtually without discussion, including approval of a State fer*ry service, eertiiication of motor-drivers, registration, of land agents, separation of t-_i days for the general election and local option polls. State supervision of aceommoda.tion for bushmen. abolition of private 'registry offices, registration of -phunbers, and the appointment of public defenders as well as Crown prosecutors. The conference declared in favour of free, secular, and compulsory education, avid condemned the efforts lo introduce the Bible in schools or denominational, grants. It was decided to urge Parliament to .impose an export duty of 3d per 1b hides, skins, and greasy wool. It wa6 agreed to hold the next conference in Wellington.
