STAMP-SELLING MACHINES.
The 6tamp-selling machines installed in the chief post offices throughout the Dominion have worked so satisfactorily that th© department has decided to order 'fifty more. It 'is stated that in nine months a quarter of a million stamps were sold by eight machines. Mr. Edward Nelson, of the International Bible Students' Association, who gav-e a courso of Bible lectures here two months ago, has returned from, a successfvl tour of North Island towns, and will give a series of scripture lectures! appropriate to the ssason this week, in the committee room of the Tcwn Hall. To-night's topic will be "The Resurrection," and to-morrow night the unusual subject "Why Does God Permit Evil 1" will bo discoursed. The meetings are f lee ; no collections are taken. Mr. W. Gorrie, well known in the bowling world as a former president of the Northern Bowling Association, died on Monday at Auckland, at the age of 70 years. In 1870 he joined his brother-in-law, Mr. J. U. Upton, and founded the firm of Upton and Co., Queenstreet, Auckland, in which he was an active parfcnei up to the time of his i death.
