LOWER HUTT CASES.

A sitting of the Lower Hutt Police Court was held this morning, Messrs. Cudby and Peterkin, Justices of the Peace, presiding. John Henry Pace^, for whom Mr. Fitzgibbon appeared, was proceeded against on a charge of cruelly ill-treating a horse by working it in harness while suffering from sores. The police described this »s a very bad case of cruelty ; there were nine distinct sores. Apart from the sores the animal appeared in good condition. Mr. Peterkin said that there was a great deal of cruelty in the Hutt Valley, and it would have to be put a stop to. Accused would be fined 40s, with costs amounting to £1 2s. The alternative [ was. fixed at one month's imprisonment. For riding a bicycle on the footpath along tho Hutt-road. Robert Walker was fined sy, with costs 7s. J. Dawson pleaded guilty to riding a bicycle at night without a light, and h© was also fined ss, with costs 7s.
