A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING.

RECORD TOTALISATOR TAKINGS. [EJE TELBOEAPH — SPKCIAL TO THE ?OST.] FEILDING, 18th April. The totalisator takings for the Feilding Meeting were over £3000 ahead of the club's record of £32,000, established some years ago. To-day the principal event was the Easter Handicap, in which Mulga Bill effected a surprise by winning comfortably, paying the best dividend of the meeting. , There were no withdi'awals, and Goodwin Park was made favourite. Queen of Scots led past" the stand from Mulga Bill, Goodwin Park, and Con the Shaughraun. The Dannevirke-owned mare secured a long lead rounding into the back stretch, but with seven furlongs gone she began to drop back to the held. Mulga Bill took charge rounding the bend, and finished full of running, with three lengths to tbe good from Goodwin Park, who was three-parts of a length ahead of Kauroa, with John fourth, Te Puia fifth, and Meroze sixth. Teotane finished last. St. Toney was backed to under evens for the Denbigh Stakes, but had to be ridden to win, Clemora challenging strongly and getting to within half a length of the St. Clements gelding. Waiouru was in front to the entrance of the straight, but finished out of the running. Mon Ami again filled a place, and Winning Post was fourth, and Trite Shot fifth. Cork, full-brother to Floater, by Mer-riwee—-Float, who had ,won a hack race at Waipukurau on the previous day, won the Awahuri Hack from start to finish, having three lengths to the good at the end of the journey. Contour, who was little fancied, finished into second place ahead of Stevens, Ladrone, and Valentine, who were next in order. Ladrone was a hot favourite. Marton was favourite for the Kimbolton Hurdles on the strength of his fine late run in TMonday's open jumping event. Winchester was i" front from Marton to the last jump, but in thfe run home the favourite won nicely by a length. Hydrant was several lengths away third, and Xavier last. Waiputere was scratched for the Oroua Hack Hurdles. Leolanter and Puketotara received most support, being

almost equally in demand. Leolanter threw out at the grand-stand jump, and his rider (N. Campbell) got a nasty Bpili, but escaped with a severe shaking. He was brought in unconscious, but soon recovered. Puketotara led throughout, and survived a challenge by Burton by a bare length. All Trumps was a po,vr third. Canadian did not complete the course. Vibration shot to the front in the Rewa Hack Handicap, and soon had a big lead from Mortite and Boronia. Rounding the bend the leader had still a big lead from Mortite, Moondine having run into third place. Vibration led up the straight and appeared to have the race won when Gaby came from the clouds, and J. M'Lean stole the race on the post by a- head margin. Parewanui was three lengths away third, Mortite fourth, and Moondine fifth. Thirteen maidens were saddled up for the Scurry. Monologue led to the distance, where Makara caught him, and won by a head. Piriwai was a neck away third, and then three lengths back came Taft and Lady Van about oa terms, and Euroca next. The winner is trained by the Palmerston trainer, A. J. Shearsby. Te Roti and Wimmera made the running in the final event. Rounding the bend, Irish Rifle was in front, having come smartly from the back, and at this stage he looked like winning. The field, however, closed up at the entrance to the straight, and Floater came through. In the last few strides Waipnnui came with a rush, and just gained the verdict by a head from Floater, with Wimmera third, Mallet fourth, and Attention fifth.
