PLUMBERS' CONFERENCE.
PROPOSED REGISTRATION BILL A draft copy of the proposed Plumbers' Registration Bill was consideired by the Plumbers' Conference yesterday. The object of tho Bill is to remove certain aiiomaliee in the granting of licenses to plumbers to do certain sanitary work. At present a license granted in one centre doea not entitle a plumber to do eanita-ry work in anothex town. The projected Bill provides for the appointment by the Government of a- registrar, who shall regulate tho issue to plumbers of a liceco&s, available" in any part ci tho Dominion. It ie proposed that an examining board shall be sot up in each centre, coneieting of one representative of the operative- plumbers, one representative of the employers' associations, one representative of the district local authorities controlling sanitary works, and a representative appointed by the Government. Under the Bill the present representation of Technical School Boards upon the boards of examiners would be abolished. Another clause- in the draft Bill provides tliat the possession of a satisfactory license iseu^ed in the Old Country shall entitle a plumber to be licensed in New Zealand. At pr-esent Auckland is the only New Zealand centre in which these- foreign qualificatione are r-ecognised. The Bill also provides for the (recognition of licensee issued under the cyst-cm that now obtains in New Zealand by the various 'local authorities. The conference also considered th-e provisions of a Dominion award, which the unions will ask tho court to adopt on the expiry of the present awards.
