MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS. MEETINGS AND NOTICES.
Mr. John Fuller, jun., addressed a meeting of about thirty-five electors, including several women, at Wadestown last night. la the course of an address, which lasted only about twenty minutes,, Mr. Fuller said he was averse to candidates making promises, as in tho past so few had been fulfilled, and as he was a man of action and not of words he prs forred to be modest in regard to pro. mises. He thought it was necessary to elect new councillors if only to spur tht. older councillors to look to' their, laurels and eu.Hea.vour to improvo their past excellent records. Mr. Fuller will speak at Bense's Uomer. Brooklyn, at 7.30 this evening. About forty electors were present at [ the Roseneath Schoolroom /last nighfc, I when Mr. A. Leigh Hunt gave an address. Mr. W. Ward presided. "The' candidate urged that the Tramways Department needed a thorough overhauling, and that more than £500 a year should bo set aside for the extinction, of tho old horse-titamway loan. He would only favour the estsblishment of municipal markets if tho people beforehand amply demonstrated that they would patronise them. The To Aro railway station should be developed, so that road traffic tn the adjoining districts might be reduced. He spake at length on other matters on the lines of his Wadesfcowa speech, and at the clone wms, on the motion of Professor Kirk, unanimously accorded a vote of thanks. As evidence of his apprenticeship in public life, the candidate mentioned, among other positions, tha-t he had been a member and chairman of the Olaki Road Board, and president of the Friendly Societies' Colonial Conference, and at the present time he is president of the Hataitai Ratepayers' Association, and a member of the Council of Chamber of Commerce*. Mr. F. Cohen is a candidate for a seat 00 the City Council. Mr. E. Galliohan, who is seeking a. seat in tlio City Council, will address the electors in the Tiffin Social Hall, Man-.ners-street, on Monday night, making special reference to tramways and electric light. Mr. A. H. Griffiths announces his candidature for a seat on the City Council. Mr. E. P. Bunny, 'Mayor of Lower Hutt, will address tho Hutt electors in Qt. James's Hall on Friday evening on the finances of the borough and other matters of general interest. To-morrow evening Mr. David Robertson will deliver an address in the Eastbourne Hall. The Hon. J. E. Jenkinson, who is a candidate for election to the City Council,, will exhibit the main structure of his' platform at the Tiffin Tea-rooms, Manners-street, at 7.30 on Friday evening. _ He will principally give a broad outline of town-planning, from various viewpoints, and will also discuss tramway management and general municipal finance.
