[PRESS ASSOCIATION.] TWO FEDERATIONS OF LABOUR.
ANOTHER EFFORT FOR AMALGAMATION. CHRISTCHURCH. 17th April. The question of the amalgamation of the two federations of labour at present existing in the Dominion — the New Zealand Federation of Labour (registered), commonly 'referred to as the Miners' Federation', and the New Zealand Trades and Labour Council's Federation of Labour — was discussed at some length by the Trades and Labour Conference to-day. Mr. R. Breen (Ofcago) moved : "That the conference be requested to make a further effort to bring about an amalgamation of the two federations of labour."' After a long discussion, the opinions of the speakers being in favour of the proposal, the motion' was agreed to unanimousl}'. It was decided to telegraph to the secretary of the Miners' Federation and ask that a conference should be held as early as possible ior the purpose of biinging about amalgamation. Mr. M'Laren gave notice to move : "That a committee be set up to go into the matter and report on the basis of amalgamation."
