NOTES FROM OTAKI.
JBY TBLEGBAPH — SPECIAL TO THB EOST.] OTAKI, This Day. The Otaki Druids' sports, held yesterday, proved -fairly successful, being favoured with fine weather and a large, attendance. The racing was very goocl, and the chief events resulted : — loOyds maiden (district), Banks 1, Ellers 2 ; 220 yds hurdles, Hughes 1, Cunningham, 2; 100 yds, Ellers 1; M'Kain 2; 220 yds, M'Kain 1, Ellers 2; 440 yds, M'Kain 1, Hughes 2; forced. Cunningham 1, Bell 2; Druid&'^race, D. Wilson 1, J. Noble 2. Yesterday was a heavy day for the bowlers, and in consequence of Saturday's ram ths local club's tournament , was held for one day only, and consequently play started very early. Teams representing the Khandallah, Hutt, Victoria, Wellington, and Levin Clubs competed, and excitement ran high all day I till the final was reached, the Otaki B team and the Hutt being left to fight for honours. The local clvb — Fergusdn (skip), Thomson, Farmei, and Batherley — played splendidly, and defeated Trevethick, Jones, Nicholson, and Hollard (skip) by 29—15. Mr. A. Trotter, of Waikanae, has left on a visit to England, expecting to be away some months. On his return, he will probably take up residence in Otaki. For wissault, a man named M'Kenzie was fined at the local court £5 and costs (18s), in default one month's imprisonment. This was the only case of misconduct during the holidays. During the holidays Mr. Percy Freeman, son of Mr. H. Freeman waa married to Miss Daisy Bills, abo of Otaki, while at Rikiorangi Mr. Meyers was married to Miss Stubbings.
