THE EARL OF CARLISLE. By Telegraph.— Press Association..— Copyright. (Received April 18, 9 a.m.) LONDON, 17th April. The Earl of Carlisle is dead. H«; death, which was sudden, causes a byelection for South Birmingham, which his son, Viscount Morpeth, now represents in the House of Commons. [George James Howard, ninth Earl of Carlisle, was born in 1843, and succeeded his uncle in 1889. He was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge. From 1879-80, and again from 1881 to 1885, he was Liberal member of the House of Commons for East Cumberland. His son and heir is Viscount Morpeth, Liberal Unionist M.P. for South Birmingham, who wijl now go to the House of Lords, thus creating at vacancy in the House of Commons. Lord Morpeth was first elected for South Birmingham in 1906. He comes of a household which is divided in politics, but there are no half -shades in' his own, creed, which is that of a thorough going Tariff Reformer.]
