'A TESTIMONIAL. By. Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. (Received April 15, 9 a.m.) LONDON, 14th April. The Libeial Council is promoting a testimonial to the Right Hon. Thomas Burt, M.P., "Father of the House of Commons." [Born in London as far back as 1837, the son of a miner, Mr. Burt, P.C., began working " below the surface " at ten years of age. For eighteen years he faced all the perils attaching to the work of a coal-miner, and in 1865 he was promoted by his fellows to the post of secretary of the Northumberland Miners' Mutual Provident Association, and still holds that position. He has sat for Morpeth since 1874.]
