NEW ZEALAND ARCH. SITE IN WHITEHALL.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) LONDON, 3rd March. The Westminster City Council has granted th& request of the High Commissioner for permission to ereeb a triumphal arch in Whitehall between the Horse Guards and Trafalgar-square. The committee, of which Lord Chey-lesmor-e is chairman, appointed by the council to deal with, matters relating to the Coronation, considered this week a letter from tho High Commissioner, stating that the Government of New Zealand had instructed him to make arI rangements to erect, if possible, in honour of the Coronation, an arch on the line of -route between Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey, and asking for the necessary permission. The High Commissioner pointed out that the place which suggested itself was some .space in Whitehall between the j Dnke of Cambridge's statue and Trafal-gar-square, provided the Coronation procession passed through the new Admiralty arch into Trafalgar-square. The Works Committee of the Westminster City Council has no objection to the erection of tho arch, and the Coronation Committee recommended that the application be granted, subject to the exact spot tor the arch being agreed to between the High Commissioner and the sub-committee after consultation with the police -authorities. It may be recalled that ab King Edward's Coronation, Canada had a fine arch in Whitehall, and it was through the cab in which he was driving coming into collision with the Canadian arch that Mr. Chamberlain sustained injury to his head. - - - .
