LABOURERS' WAGES. TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, — Kindly allow me a little space in your paper re Labourers' wages. The labourers are the poorest paid men of any and have the hardest work to do. My husband is a labourer working as a casual hand for the council. For this three years he has got 9e a day but is not paid for wet days and holidays. On. an average he earns from £1 16s to £2 ss. Only three times since Christmas has he made his full wage £2 10s per week. Out of that he has a wife and five children to keep; their ages ranging from 13 to 5 years. ' My accounts run, for a week : — Grocer 16s, butcher 6s, baker 3s 6d, milk 3s, vegetables 3s, xent 12s 6d, total £2 4s. What have I left for clothing and boots? It is time somebody made a move in the matter. I say we are only existing. — I am, etc., A LABOURER'S WIFE. Wellington, 12th April, 1911.
