CHEAP TEA TO BE DEARER. RISE IN AUCKLAND.
CBS TKLaGRAPH— SPECIAL TO TUB POST.j AUCKLAND, This Day. For some time past a rise in the price of tea has been expected in Auckland. Extensive areas formerly planted in teti, are now growing rubber, and the Eussians and Americans, it is stated, have taken more to tea drinking. These are amongst the causes that have led to t)he present position of the world's demand almost overtaking the supply. In coneequence the tea merchants in Auckland have found it necessary to increase the prices of th© lower grades by about a penny a pound 1 , and the retailers will follow their lead as soon as their present supplies are exhausted. Speaicing of the rise a local merchant said that it would affect the Auckland people more than those ai the other centres, since Auckland drank very poor brands of tea.
