The Berwick Advertiser of 17th February refers at some length to the life and works of the late Canon Hastings M. Neville, 8.A., Vicar of Ford, Northumberland (father of Mr. Neville, of Victoria-street, Wellington). The Advertiser says that the deceased gentleman was perhaps the greatest authority of his time on the customs and traditions of the North Country people, and Jiad written several interesting books upon the subject. Canon Neville's death, it says, will be keenly felt throughout the whole of Northumberland, where, owing to his kind and genial nature, he made many friends. He was beloved by old and young alike, and the deep interest he show-ed in the training and welfare of the younger people was evinced by the irumerous little social societies he organised. In an appreciative notice, Dr. Thomas Hodgkins, of Baxmoor Castle, says that from a mere literary and archaelogical point of view tho loss to Northumberland through the death of Canon Neville is great.
