MIRAMAR BOROUGH COUNCIL.
PAST YEAR'S FINANCES. A meeting of the Miramar -Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor (Mr. J. Brodie) presiding. Other members present were— .Councillors Muir, 'Bov^er-BeU, M'Leod, and Richards. The Town Clerk (Mr. Bennett) submitted a statement of the finances for I the year ending 31st Mai eh, 1911. On j the general account there was a credit j balance of £829 9s lid, £6520 13s hay- ] ing been received and £5691 3s lid ex- i pended. Included 1 hi ihe credit balance was a prospective amount of £577 Is 6d, interest due on Ist June, 1911. In the wharf account, receipts totalled £544 lls 7d, less amounts totalling £161 9s 2d, representing transfers to the interest account A credit balance of £183 2s 5d thus remained. Tramway receipts amounted to £3356 15s lOd, inclusive of the sum of £74 14s 6d, transferred to credit from the district fund to balance the- amount. Passenger receipts provided £2778 Os 4d, carriage of mails £76 10s, carrying papers £2 10s 6d, sale of land £485 0s 6d. The espendituie on the tramways account was £3356 15s lOd. The total amount of rates receivable for the year, £7143 2s Id (interest rate £5571 lls 5d and general rate £3571 lls sd), had been collected, and councillors expressed satisfaction at the way the money had come in. Ever since it had been a borough, Miramar, it wa& pointed out, had always enjoyed the distinction of having no rates outstanding at the end of the financial year. SINKING FUNDS. , The sinking fund account was summarised as follows:— Receipts: Balance 31st March, 1910, £46 18s 6d; sinking fund tramway loan (£23,000), £230; sinking fund tramway loan (£12,000) s £120; smking fund street improvement loan £23,000), £230; sinking find sanitation loan, £o0; district fund sale of tramways, £1052 19s; interest, £125 7«; 9d • total, £1835 5s 3d. Expenditure : Sanitation loan debentures, £1100 ; AM P redemption of debentures, £ioo;~inveVtments on mortgage, £450; Public Trustee, £30; bank charge, 10s; balance on 31st March, 1911, £154 15s 3d; total, i;lOOO OS 3d. PUBLIC DEBT. The public debt, which totalled £72,648 5s 4d, was made up as follows- — No 1 loan, £3060 ; No 2 loan, £3071 • No 3 I^'^ 516 \^°- 4 loan debentures, £23,000; ho. 5 loan debentures No. 6 loan debentures £28,000; No. 7 loan debentures, £3000. BONUS TO STAFF. Councillors, in voting a bonus of £20 to the clerk (Mr. R, A. Bennett), and ±.10 to his assistant (Miss tßuli), paid a high tribute to the staff for the eiScieut manner in which it had supervised the business of the borough.
