At'tlO.3o this morning a- fire occurred in a ihr-ee-story; house in Hopetonnstreet, Newton, occupied by the- Rev. ■W. Seadyj Methodist minister. Mts. Ready and a maid were in the housest the^fckne, and Mrs. Ready was boiling beeswax over a stove in the kitchen. This fetred. up, and it is surmised thaiMi's. Ready jumped from the seconds story to the ground — about 20ft. She-< was found en the ground lureonseious and suffering from slight burns on the> face. JBoth ankles were severely hart. The honse is the property of the Methodist Connection, and contained fourteen, rooms. The interior was com-, ■pletely-gutted. No furniture -was saved ; it was insured for £200 in the New" iZealxnd office, which also held a. policy^ over tie house for £800. Mrs. R*ady will be laid up for-some-j Jjonsidecaiilo time.
