Gold Escort arrived here at 10.40 this morning from West Coast without any gold and left for Christchurch at 1.24 p.m. Wednesday, 4 p.m. Hokitika news has arrived to the Bth instant. Arrived —On the 7th, Souchays steamer, from Nelson; on the 6th, Prince Consort, schooner, from Lyttelton; Apparina, schooner, from Invercargill; Aurora schooner, from Dunedin. Sailed —On the 6th Gothenburgh* steamer, for Melbourne; on the 7th John M'Donell, Sturt, Ann Moore, and Willing Lass for Melbourne. , A great rush has taken place to Okarita
where a large township is springing!?^ and large quantities of gold discovered. The steamer Bruce -has been laid on to carry passengers from Hokitika. A great number of miners are working at Port Elizabeth, and are doing well. At the North Beach diggings miners are making their piles. One party of three are making £100 per week. Another party sold a one-fifth share for £180, the purchaser afterwards finding prospects of five dwts. to the dish. A great many miners are off from Hokitika to the north between the Grey and Buller rivers, where a Maori has found three dwts. to the dish.
