Carried. *%f r, Plimmer gave notice, that, on the next Board day, he would move that, the main drain on Lambton quay be continued from Mr Levy's shop to Kumototo stream^}On the motion of Mr. Jacka, it was resolved, that the Commissioners of Te Aro Ward,. with the Surveyor, do meet a deputation of the inhabitants ot Tasman street to devise the best way to carry out the road as now in course of construction. The City Surveyor presented the following report :— " City Surveyor'a Office, "24 th November, 1865. '•As directed by the .Board, I have examined the road from Majoribank's street towards Oriental Quay, for the formation of
the road along Clyde Quay, from Majoribank's street to its jvmution with Oriental Q'liy, Section N". 391, say for a breadth of twelve feet. I think it will cost sonic one hundred pounds. "In compiny with Mr. Jacka, 1 have measured and examine I the reg lirements for an open drain along the east side of the C.mal Reserve, and beg to lay before the Board the specification for the same. " The various works being carried on by the prisoners are progressing in a satisfactory manner. 11 1 beg to lay before the Board the various plans, sections, &c, aid specifluatijns of the work advertised by the B>aid. " I have completed the works required along Thurndon Quay to the tXtreme end of the town towards the liut . bridge near Mr. Moore's residence has been widened to 36 feet. And at Dr Feathtrston's the lower road has been made good and finished, where the damage has lately arisen, to the breadth of 50 feet. If the Board will allow me to use t he prison labour and will permit me to no to tie expense of some twenty-five pounds for material, I think I may state that I am in a position to repair all the damage that has arisuu. 1 urn of opinion that with an expenditure of about twenty-five pounds that I can make the road good. If the Board would authorise me to vs 3 stone flagging for the covering of such drains as that at Dr. Featherston's, I think the work could be done at less expense, and more permanent than using timber ; this refers to where there is a heavy amount of filling in. "In Willis-street, the culverts f rum the Union Bank to Mr. Howe's, are laid down in the continuation of the same to the main drain. I propose using the brinks at present in the drain opposite Mr. Howe's in laying this surface drain along Dixon -street. " R. Skeet, " City Surveyor." Mr. G. Hart having expressed, his intention of being absent for a month or six weeks, Mr. Bishop was nominated to fill the chair until his return.
