BAY OF PLENTY.
The tfouthern Cross of the 15th instant says: — "By the arrival yesterday of the
schooner Kauri, we have intelligence from the Bay of Plenty to the 10th instant. Captain Shearer, who left the Bay on that day, reports nothing of importance occurring during his stay there. Kereopa and Patara (Butler) had left the district, with some forty of their followers, and were believed to be on their way to Taranaki. Nothing had been heard'of them for several days past, but when last spoken of, they were supposed to be en route for Taranaki. Henare Potae visited the Bay with a number of his men about a week previous, and had not left a very good impression on the minds of the fanatics there, who had since evinced a desire to plunder the settlers, if not break out into open rebellion. Henare Potae left with his men for Tauranga, where it was expected he would be engaged with the troops in attacking the Hau Haus in that vicinity. The chief Morgan was still about at Poverty Bay with his fighting men, and had done good service there at the capture of the rebel natives.
