PRESBYTERY OF WELLINGTON.
This Court held its half-yearly meeting in the Presbyterian Church, Willis street, on Monday, November I3*h, 1865, and was duly constituted. PruAeut : — '1 he Rev. Johu Moir, Moderator; Revs. David iiogg, of Wanganui; James Duncan \ of Manawatu and Lower Rangitikei ; and Messrs. W. Shaw, W Craighead, and Alexander Williamson Elders. The Revs. D. Bruce, J. Hill, P. Barclay, and J. Campbell being present (on their way to the Assembly) were requested to take their seats In the Presbytery and co-operate therewith. ( i he Rev. Ralph J. Alls worth wus then I chosen Moderator for the next twelve months/**^ The commissions of the Rev. James Cumming, of Upper Rangitikei, were laid on the table of the Presbytery and sustained, and his name entered on the roll. The resolutions, laid upon the table of the Presbytery held at Wanganui, in March last, disapproving of the recommendation of the General Assembly anent I'nion with the Presbytery of Otago, having been read. The Rev! Mr. Duncan moved—" That this Presbytery, considering the state of
the Presbyterian Church in this colony, and the desirability of union, sustain the resolution of the General Assembly anent the ' Otago resolution,' on the understanding that the right of appeal, in all cases of Government and discipline be reserved." Whereupon the Rev. Mr. Moir moved, as an amendment thereto—" The aforesaid resolutions," but, after considerable discussion, the amendment was withdrawn, and the motion of Mr. Duncan was agreed to. It was al o agreed— "That this Presbytery, having considered the report of the committee anent the Widows' and Orphans' Fund, cordially approve of the same, and recommend that the General Assembly immediately take steps to act upon it." flT^The Rev. Mr. Camming then proposed jthe following overture which was agreed to— '• That it is humbly overtured to the ¦ Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of ! ' New Zealand to appoint a Committee to < ' apply to the Legislature at its next session, | to have our Church recognised as the^ Presbyterian Church of New Zealand." 1 This overture was also agreed to — " That it is humbly overtured to the Assembly of i the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand to take steps to have • the proposed model deed prepared without dehy, and sent down to the various Presbyteries and Sessions." ««si| The, following Commissioners were then appointed to meet at Dunedin on or about the 21st day of the current month ; viz: — Theßevs. John Moir and James Cumming, and Messrs. W. bhaw and A. Williamson, Elders. It was then arranged that the Presbytery meet three times a year, viz. : — At Wellington in November; at Wanganui in February ; and at Manawatu in July. • The Rev. J. Cumming tabled the following notice— That at the next meeting of Presbytery he will move "Thar the records of Sessions and Deacons' Courts be presented annually for examination by this Court, according to the usage of the Church." The morning's sederunt was then closed with prayer. * t An adjourned meeting was held in the evening at 7 o'clock. The Rev. R. j. Alhworth, Moderator # Present : — The Revs. D. Uogg, Jas. The minutes of the former sederuiit were read and sustained, and other business transacted. - j The Presbytery appointed its flex? meeting to be held at Wanganui in the month of February, 1866, on a day to be hereafter fixed by the Moderator and thereafter the Presbytery was closed with prayer.
