The last Melbourne dates, per Albion are Ito the 31st ult. Flour and other breadstuff s have risen largely in all the Australian markets ; butcher's meat also. The com- > mercial report of the Argus of the above date, says :— In general trade business has 1 opened out without showing much animation. In breadstuffs, however, no diminution in

the number of inquiries is perceptible, though the character of the business done bas changed, no larger or speculative sales having come under our notice. In flour, especially, though the quantities that have gone into the hands of the trade have been extensive transactions have been limited to parcels of from twentyfive to fifty tons, and a slight advance on the closing rates obtained last week has been realised, £26 10s to £27 10s having been obtained. Chilian wheat has been sold at 11s., and offers a shade under that price made for quantities have been refused. Sales of Adelaide wheat are reported at 11s. 6d. Maize continues to command special attention ; parcels of 500 bags were placed at 4s. 6d. in the morning, and subsequently 4s. 7£dwas offered and refused, holders expecting to obtain 4s. 9d. Oats are also firmer, being saleable at ss. 6d. Latest Telegrams received at Melbourne, from Sydney, dated October 30, state that from all quarters the news comes in of failing crops and perishing cattle. In thereat, flour, which two weeks ago could he purchased at £15 per ton, is now up to £30, and still rising. From Adelaide, October 30, the report is — •' Great excitement in the market for breadstuff's. Sales of flour reported at £27 Bs."
