DIOCESAN SYNOD. YESTERDAY.

The Synod assembled yesterday at two o'clock, the following gentlemen being present : —The Lord Bishop of Wellington, Archdeacon Hadfield, Reverends R. Taylor, H. W. St. Hill, A. Stock, W. Ronaldson, H. E. Herring. Laity— Hon. Major Coote, Hon* R. Stokes, Messrs, Baker, Battersbee, Lud.lara, Pearee, Hart, Barraud, Braithwaite, and Kebbell. The President having opened the proceed- . ings with prayer, the minutes of meeting held 27th inst., were read and confirmed. The Rev. H. St. Hill read the report of the Committee on Parochial Accounts. Ar.hdeacon Hadfield read an interim report of the Committee on Resolutions. Moved by Archdeacon Hadfield, seconded by Hon. R. Stokes—" That assessors be appointed to remove, when necessary, clergymen from their appointments : to consist of Revs. A. Stock, P. H. Maxwell, J. E. Herring ; Messrs. Hart, Pearce, Ludlam, Robinson, and the mover." After some discussion, the motion was deferred until next day. Moved by Hon. R. Stokes, seconded by MrBat tersbee — " That the Standing Commission be requested to continue the old burial regulations. " — Carried . Moved by Rev. J. E. Herring, seconded by Mr, Ludlam— " That the Act Amendment Bill be read a third time." Bill read a third time and passed. Moved by Mr. Pearce—" That the present diocesan scale be altered." The Rev. H. W. St. Hill requested that the different clauses should be .put separately. The Ist clause was amended by leave of the Synod, by the insertion of the words " Licensed to Parishes." Clause 1 was moved by Mr. Pearce and seconded by the Rev. W. Ronaldson—" That the incomes of all priests and deacons licensed to parishes should be regulated according to the following scale : — That the minimum amount of stipend should not be less than £ 150 a-year, from the quarter day following the ordination of a clergyman as dpacon, to increase not less than £10 a-year, to n. maximum of .£4OO, exclusive of E&ater offerings. "—Carried. Moved by Mr. Pearce, seconded by Rev. W. Ronaldson—" That clause 3 be expunged; that the Diocesan Synod rate shall not be given to any clergyman who obtains an augmentation of income by engaging in any other duties than those which have been assigned to him in the Church."— Lost. Moved by Rev. W. Konaldson, seconded by Hon. R. Stokes — " That an appeal in aid of the Diocesan Fund be drawn up and circu* lated amongst church members." — Carried. Notices of motion were given by Mr. Hart and Rev. H. W. St. Hill.
